So many pathways,
people,
and stories
have led me here.
I was born at home, on my mama’s bed.
There was a lightening storm on a sunny day, as I emerged from my mother’s womb.
They called me Maliya, ten days after I was born. Quntaw Eneq, Lightening Woman, comes from the Chumash language of my ancestors.
My work with families took flight at a little school by the sea in 2013.
Sunset Cooperative is a play and connection based parent participation nursery school located in the sunset district of San Francisco. For 9 years I called Sunset home, as a lead teacher. Immersed in community, parent education, and play. I began my path towards birthwork here. At Sunset Co-op, we value and facilitate an inclusive environment for growing families; rich in the vital connection and attachment that humans need to learn and grow, along the journey to true self.
This philosophy is one that guides my practice as a doula, and as a human.
